Chatbox Privacy Policy
Effective 28 June 2026
Chatbox ("the app", "we", "us") is operated by Mynt Pte Ltd ("Mynt"), Singapore. Chatbox is a messaging app that brings your conversations from different services into one inbox. This policy explains what we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.
1. Information we collect
- Account information: your phone number (or, for business accounts, email) and display name, used to create and secure your account.
- Messages and media: the messages, images, files, voice notes and reactions you send and receive through Chatbox, so we can deliver and display them across your devices.
- Connected accounts: when you link an external messaging account (such as WhatsApp or Telegram), we process the messages and contact details from that account in order to show them in your unified inbox. We act on your behalf to relay these messages; we do not use their content for any other purpose.
- Device and push data: a push notification token and basic device information, so we can deliver notifications.
- Diagnostics: limited error and usage information to keep the service reliable.
2. How we use your information
- To provide, sync and secure the messaging service.
- To deliver notifications about new messages.
- To provide optional features you trigger, such as on-demand message translation.
- To prevent abuse and protect the safety and integrity of the service.
- To respond to your support requests.
3. How information is shared
We do not sell your personal information. We share data only with service providers that help us run Chatbox, under agreements that limit their use of it:
- Hosting and database: for storing your account and messages.
- Push delivery: Apple Push Notification service (iOS) and Google Firebase Cloud Messaging (Android), to deliver notifications.
- Translation: when you choose to translate a message, the message text is sent to our translation provider to return the translation.
- The messaging platforms you connect: to send and receive messages on those platforms at your direction.
We may also disclose information if required by law, or to protect the rights, safety and property of our users or Mynt.
4. Data retention
We keep your information for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, we delete your profile, messages and connected-account data, except where we must retain limited records to comply with legal obligations.
5. Security
Data is transmitted over encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS) and stored on secured infrastructure with access controls. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we work to protect your information.
5a. Encryption for personal accounts
Personal (non-business) accounts choose a privacy level in Settings: Standard (messages stored normally, notifications show the message), Private (encrypted storage, notifications show who messaged but not the message), or Maximum (encrypted storage, notifications reveal nothing and translation is unavailable). At Private and Maximum:
- Chats between Chatbox users are end-to-end encrypted. Messages are encrypted on your device and can only be read on your devices and the recipient's devices. Chatbox cannot read them.
- Connected chats (WhatsApp, Telegram) use zero-access storage. Messages pass through our relay for a moment to sync with the connected service, then are stored encrypted with keys only your devices hold. Chatbox cannot read your stored messages.
What this does and does not cover, stated plainly:
- Encryption keys exist only on your devices. If you lose access to all of your devices, we cannot recover your encrypted message history; connected chats re-sync from the connected service.
- Metadata (who you talk to, when, group membership, which services you connected) is not encrypted; the protection covers message content and media.
- Messages sent before you turned encryption on remain stored as they were.
- Some optional features send specific content off your device only when you use them and only after telling you: translating a message (available at Standard and Private, not at Maximum) sends that message's text to our translation service; the draft-reply assistant sends recent messages from that chat; enabling a data integration or webhook shares the content it says it shares and turns off encrypted storage for the affected conversations.
- The other side of a connected chat lives with that service (for example WhatsApp), under that service's own rules.
- On the web, the code that performs encryption is delivered by us each time the page loads; the installed mobile apps carry the stronger form of this guarantee.
6. Your choices and rights
- You can edit your profile and disconnect any linked account at any time from within the app.
- You can request deletion of your account and associated data by contacting us (see below).
- Depending on your location, you may have additional rights to access, correct or export your data.
7. Children
Chatbox is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your country), and we do not knowingly collect information from them.
8. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We will post the updated version here and revise the effective date above.
9. Contact
For privacy questions or data-deletion requests, contact Mynt Pte Ltd at [email protected].
This policy is provided for the Chatbox app's store listings and users. It is a starting draft prepared for review and should be checked against Mynt's actual data practices and any applicable legal requirements before being relied upon.
